Burnsville High School Track & Field

Many of you know I am from Burnsville, Minnesota...therefore graduated from Burnsville...(in 2001 for everyone curious!) As a sophomore in highschool, I joined the track team and threw shot-put and discus. I LOVED IT! I had the greatest experiences...even when my little sister joined the team and kicked my butt. I have so many great memories of Track and Field.

A few years after I graduated, my former coach called me up and asked if I would be interested in photographing the Captains for the annual "Captain's Poster". I was so honored to be thought of and jumped right in. This year was my 4th year of photographing the girl's team and producing their poster.

In the Twin Cities, "Captain's Posters" are HUGE. I haven't noticed the craze hit the Brainerd Lakes Area like I thought it might, but there is always time to start! The poster is something metro teams invest a lot of thought, time and money into. I think it would be safe to say every school and every sport has a professional photographer produce something similar to what I have done for the Burnsville Track Team. The posters are typically dispersed throughout the highschool, elementary schools, and community. If there is a local coach, parent, or athletic director out there who wants to talk about doing something similar for their team, let me know!

I photographed these girls a few weeks ago in the Career Center at BHS. They were super fun to work with....I would normally never show anyone a 'starter image' like the one below...but this is how these posters usually start out. My background stand never expands far enough for me, so I always know I have plenty of touch up to do in the computer!

And for those of you curious about the fire and smoke....Burnsville is the Home of the BLAZE!

Hi Everyone! I'm back from Mexico and so excited about the upcoming spring and summer seasons! My schedule is filling up like crazy and I couldn't be more enthusiastic about what I will be offering this year! I will be contracting just a few more weddings for 2008, so if you are engaged and have not yet selected your photographer, feel free to contact me. I am excited about the popularity of my boudoir sessions as well. Business is booming and I am so thankful to all of you for making it that way.

Sean and I are heading to Puerto Vallarta to spend 10 days in the sun and warmth for our honeymoon! It's not often either of us has the opportunity to lift our sails, so we're taking advantage of this dream vacation and leaving all our work at home.

I will be away from email and my phone from Thursday February 21 to Sunday March 3.

For 6 months now my dad has been a warrior against cancer and recently has experienced a number of setbacks that require him to be admitted to the hospital. If you are waiting for your wedding album or portrait order, they are on their way! Don't leave home without it!

We spent an awesome week in Humboldt, South Dakota with my sister and brother-in-law over the New Year's Holiday. While i was packing, I found some kind of sick pleasure in saying "this time, I am not bringing my camera!" It was like I was making a declaration to who ever would listen, which turned out to be just my dogs. As we made the 350 mile drive I felt like the mom on Home Alone who forgets her child at home. Forgetting (I mean, leaving) my camera at home was the biggest mistake of the year so far! The bright blue sky, the snow tipped trees, and the experience I had on their farm checking to see if a cow was pregnant are all things that should have been documented! Especially that last one...gulp...(you DO know how to see if a cow is pregnant, right?!) So I have decided to never be so foolish again. Bring your camera, folks...everywhere you go. Even if you use it for a living.

I recently became a member of the non-profit organization called, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

An organization consisting of over 3,000 volunteer professional photographers across the United States, who, at a families request, comes to your hospital or hospice center to conduct a sensitive and private portrait session of your baby.

The following was written by the Foundation.

"When a baby dies, a world is turned upside down. There is confusion, sadness, fear and uncertainty that cannot be explained. There is sorrow where there should have been joy. During this time, it might be impossible for families to know what they might need in order to heal in the future. This is the place where the 'Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep' Foundation gently provides a helping hand and a healing herat. For families overcome by grief and pain, the idea of photographing their baby may not immediately occur to them. Some of you may recognize this little buddy from some previous posts. This is Nolan. A Nine Month Old Nolan. I have had the opportunity to photograph his newborn, 3 month, 6 month and now 9 month portraits. I love this age. They ooze personality, they sit up, they are super alert and they smile effortlessly. Nolan succeeded at all of these.

I wasn't going to have access to a bride and groom and not take some of my OWN images, so the following are a few shots of my sister and NEW brother-in-law in their town of Humboldt, South Dakota; just 20 miles west of Sioux Falls. Troy manages a grain elevator and farms so the back drop for these images seemed very appropriate. Again, we were battling FRIGID temps and snowflakes. Annie was certainly a trooper.

My last bride of the season....MY SISTER! Annie and Troy were married on Saturday December 8th in Hartford, South Dakota. I was her matron of honor, so the duties of "photographer" were passed onto a local professional. He did an outstanding job photographing the entire bridal party on corn fields and gravel roads, against fence posts and doning shot guns. We are a pretty hearty group so the frigid winter temps and gusty winds blowing across South Dakota farm fields only made us complain a bit. In an effort to give you a sneek peek into my "real" life, I'm posting some images from this weekend's snow storm. December 1, 2007...What a perfect day for a snowfall!

We live near Pine River, and this area saw 10 inches of snow! My husband, Sean and I have 2 dogs. Maggie, a 5 year old golden lab and Gus, a 1 year old weimaraner. We are avid outdoors people and are so lucky to live on 20 beautiful acres of woods and river front. It's easy to throw on some snowpants and make the best of the long Minnesota winter!

Just when I thought I had contracted my last 2007 wedding, Danielle’ emailed me and said she was planning an October wedding at the Legacy @ Craguns….. A quick engagement, but a long relationship. Danielle’ and David were a super pair to work with. I know that can sound like a broken record, but these two were fun, calm, up for anything, and SO IN LOVE! It rained 3 straight days before their wedding but their day was perfect. Just like them. Danielle’ and Dave, I sincerely thank you for the chance to photograph this most important day. I became a married woman on September 22, 2007….I also became a better photographer. Now i get it. I get why photos of your shoes are important. I get why you cry when you put your dress on. I get why you want your grandparents documented. I get how the day goes so fast that you can’t fathom how you fit everything in. I get why you wait anxiously for 4 weeks to see your proofs. I get why this is the BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE and you want the very best photos.

All along, I knew weddings were special. I knew you planned and planned. I knew that people cry at weddings because it is the one event where God is most present….but it wasn’t until my own, that I could say, “I get it.” It all became a little clearer, and for my experience as a bride, I will never forget that this is the most important day of your life.

The most acclaimed wedding date of 2007 has come and gone. Katie and Chad chose the Northern Lights Casino in Walker, Minnesota for the location of their big day. The temperature was hot hot hot! We spent some time at the Tianna Golf Course for some pre-wedding shots, then headed to the casino where they were married in a lovely ceremony. By far, the most creative programs of any wedding I have photographed. They were an assembled hand of playing cards! So cool. Thanks for the opportunity Katie and Chad!

I liked Neil and Sue the moment I met them at Caribou in Brainerd last winter. I was glad to photograph an engagement session for them this spring to better get to know them. To say their June 30th wedding was beautiful would be the understatment of the year.
